Time: Danielle Saler

As a photographer, life is busy. So busy, that while I was finally able to clean my bathroom, I stumbled upon a bar of soap. Its split ends and ridged body was intriguing as well as beautiful. But more importantly an eye opener. How do you know when something as simple as toiletries expire? Well, after photographing the detail in the bar of soap, I did some research. Did you know a bar of soap has a shelf life of three years? I sure didn't. Most toiletries have a shelf life of six months, so always keeping up on expiration dates and tips will help you stay organized. After all, the bathroom is known to be the most unorganized room in the home.

Here is an article for more information about toiletry expiration dates.

  1. I like the concept on this piece and your connection with time. I also find it interesting how you caught all the texture in the soap. Only thing i would do is talk about how the soap felt in your hands. Was it ridged? Was it slimy or sticky? Just a little bit more detail so the reader can feel the picture with you. But overall solid piece and i enjoyed reading it.

  2. Danielle, I love the concept here! The image is captivating, I had no idea what I was looking at. At first, I thought to myself, "Is it lettuce?" But you are always surprising me! I also had no idea that soap lasted for three years! Great text accompanying your image, I love the way you tie them together.

  3. Danielle, I like that your blogs always seem to have a practical application. They are so down to earth and not all vague and dreamy. I also like how you can find something interesting and beautiful in something as simple as an expired bar of soap. Well done.

  4. Danielle, great concept with the use of time. I love the color and detail of the bar of soap. I did not know that a bar of soap can last that long...I just wish that the soap was in it's more natural environment such as on the bathroom counter. Other than that it's lovely.
