Matthew Moore: Distortion

Lamp Post By The Lake 2012 © Matthew Moore
Distortion is the act or state of being malformed or garbled or the impression of being something or someone else.

With the notion of impressionism in mind I decided to go out and photograph a common subject using my DSLR—a tool that is typically used to illustrate the true likeness of it's subject. However, instead of using a standard lens I borrowed a Lensbaby Muse.

A Lensbaby is a special kind of lens designed for SLR cameras that uses a simple lens and built-in bellows to create some special-effects such as selective focus often found in view-cameras.

With practice and the correct aperture ring set in place I was able to capture an impressionistic perspective of a lamp post along the charming lake in City Park, Denver.

Next time you're in a funk or need some creative inspiration I highly recommend giving the Lensbaby a try.

Cynthia Repasy: Beauty

Beauty in the eye of the beholder?  That's a bunch of crap.  From the day we are born, we are taught what beauty is.  Whether it be by our parents, our friends, or through televison.  So what is beauty?  And how do we know that it is truly beautiful?  For me, beauty is the inner peace I feel when I've accomplished a difficult goal, when I finished a quarter of school...without failing, and when I see my children accomplish their goals.  Beauty is something that will be different for each and every person.  It's your job to figure out what it means to you and how to achieve it.

Funky: Devin Swift

What is going on? Is that real? Why? What am I on? This is the reactions I like to get when something is really funky. I love to get the feeling of another demotion. That is how I can tell if it is truly funky. All the different colors, patterns, and textures normally would not work but for funky, its perfect.

Mirrors Devin Swift

Mirrors are the coolest things to me. They are used in everyday life from grooming to admiring yourself, but mirrors also have a dark side. For centuries mirrors have been used in horror stores. From the old bloody marry to the bad luck for seven years if you break a mirror. There are also theories that you can see spirits in mirrors. There are many styles of mirrors, the new modern look, the old classic and many in between.  I love Pronto Home; it is a great site to look for mirrors. They show all the different styles and which stores have the best deals on the mirrors you like.
