Old School: Chandler Kim

Being a product of the 90's, the first thing that came to my mind when I heard the words old school was "The Fresh Prince of Bel-air." I had a great time recreating what I thought was the modern day "Fresh Princess" of Denver.

Here is a link to a website where you can watch episodes of "The Fresh Prince" and relive the good old days. http://www.freshprinceonline.com/

Old School: Cynthia Repasy

For a class assignment, we had to shoot something that was considered "old skool".  I wasn't quite sure what this meant as old skool could mean many things.  The other day I was at the playground with my kids when my youngest son came up to me wearing this older style "grampa" hat.  My grandfather used to wear similar hats and I always liked trying them on.  The hat brought back childhood memories of spending summers at my grandfather's house and the many smells of his house...some were good smells and others were just downright disgusting.  Especially when he made pigs feet.  While my son is not a grampa yet, his way of wearing it reminded me of something that is old school.

This hat is called a "golf knicker."  If interested in purchasing this style, I recommend visiting Golf Knickers

Film to Digital: Chris Bebout

Film is beautiful but sensitive medium that I have just started to understand over the past 3 months. This idea of working in complete darkness is the exact opposite of what photography is about. The feeling of being in a developing room and placing a black and white negative into chemicals, that could degrade the image if not done properly is very nerve racking but exciting once the process is finished. The lights are now on and the negative is being held up to the light....its as if this weight as been lifted. The negative is sharp, exposed correctly, and clean. Now its time to print! Whole other ball game!

Mechanical: Jazzmin Windey

Hearts aren't mechanical they are organic.  This heart however is made from a computer chip.  It allows technology and fashion to become a cohesive piece.

Mechanical: AJ Anderson

Tittle: Senior Picture, Year 2152

In the year 2152 it is a law for all cyborgs to show at least 1/4 of their face, so that everyone knows if they are a robot or a human. This makes a normal school portrait, not so normal....

Mechanical: Macklberg

When you were a kid did you ever spend a saturday morning building something because the weather was too bad to go out into.  Building an item from strach is fun.  Watching it unfold right before your eyes. Then seeing it work makes you day.  I think building something is very satisfying.

Mechanical: David C. Benson

Everybody is on the meter!

Don’t worry “The Man/SheMan” is always monitoring some aspect of your life. He/She needed the help of mechanical contractor at some point in time to develop this metering system but, now it’s installed and no matter what walk of life you are from you are still being watched about your usage.

We talked a great deal about ethics last week in class (Art Institute of Colorado- Web Portfolio Design 1) and often the Man/SheMan imposes their will upon the common folk who are striving to live a good life. It seems unfair with many of the laws and guidelines that are imposed upon us but we need to live within the confines that society gives us. We can and do change the injustices we are faced with but it takes time.

During this holiday season, let’s appreciate the life we have and the opportunities are presented us. Make the most of what we have and find some crafty new ways to “take down” the Man/SheMan (in a good way.)

Don’t think about mechanics think about actions!
