Shadow: Anna Keiser

What is a silhouette but a shadow that is coming forth? Both shadows and silhouettes alike are intangible. You can only touch the surface of them. While these shadows are standing and facing you, it's not the shadows that are the subject, rather, it's the light creating them.

Ashley Ecklund: Elements

Fire: the element of destruction and warmth. A contradiction in itself. Needed for both life and a vehicle for death. A single flame flickers with the slightest of breeze with the threat of going out. Multiplied however, fire is all-consuming and powerful. The metaphorical flame within us as humans can flicker and struggle to stay lit if we so choose. However with a little coaxing, the fire can burn brightly and passionately, igniting  the drive to succeed. The drive to be.

The term of architecture can be applied to many things. The entire building is just as important as the nuts and bolts that keep it together. Macro photography shots usually highlight the details of a subject. I have an obsession with how nature's structure plays off of the man made structures that have taken over. The overgrowth of this small weed flower on the stop sign is intricate and playful, weaving in, out and around. This literal macro shot of the weed flower presents the overgrowth as something beautiful even though the relationship is not symbiotic.

Vintage is the new trend. People are obsessed with vintage right now: from photo editing, to clothes, to household decorations! And I personally have tagged along with this fad. There is nothing wrong with jumping on the bandwagon! I have always thought items from the past were fun to collect or to just look at. I've wondered what it would be like if I was born in a different time. Some people couldn't function without computers or modern technology, but I like to say I totally could and would love to live in simpler era. I bought a record player a few months ago, because I found quite a steal on Craigslist. There is a record store called Wax Trax right up the street from the Art Institute of Colorado and I'm in there browsing a whole lot!

Sean Alexander - Stereotype

In a study by Michael Sunnafrank at the University of Minnesota, a group of college students were documented from the point they first met each other to about nine days. Sunnafrank thought that the first impressions the students had of each other would dilute as they were given more opportunities to get to know each other. The reality was that, regardless of anything new they learned, if the students had a negative or positive first impression then the relationship followed that immediate reaction.

Everything isn't black and white but in a society where we judge instantaneously and then refuse to change that judgement even though we might have similar interests, it's easy to see why stereotypes are a big part of our culture.
