Concept: Distortion

There is this very strange feeling that you get when you are standing in a room and all that surrounds you is the projected image of what is outside your window.  The room will be dimly lit but a view will turn corners and wrap the room like wallpaper.  Some may wonder how this is done as it seems like such a crazy concept.  Actually, it is the most simple and I guess you could say barbaric form of photography there is.  Pinhole photography uses no lenses, no mirrors, and no shutter.  It is nothing but a hole small enough to not let light drench whatever space is around it.  It is definitely different from anything photographic these days and when experimented with the possibilities are endless.  You are able to warp the world and distort everything visible into whatever shape the light is contained in.

Movement: Brandon Chapin

Water is a continuous source of movement in certain cases water will never stop.  It may shift and it may change but will never cease to move.  The biggest question when photographing water is what impression it should leave.   

When using a fast shutter speed it freezes the water and will make it look dangerous and rigid.  However, on the flip side, using a slow shutter you are able to sculpt the path the water takes and show its softer side.  It will look pleasing, soft, and some what inviting.  So, the choice is yours, how will you photograph the beautiful never endless movement of water?  © Brandon Chapin Photography

Color: Brandon Chapin

What better to bring happiness to everyone then a carnival!  The sounds, smells, and colorful lights evoke some sort of childish reactions that, no matter your age will have you excited and ready to play the games and ride the rides.  When I go to a carnival, though, I always just wander around looking at the beautiful lights that have a color range bigger than my childhood box of crayons.  It is always fun to just watch the Ferris Wheel go 'round and 'round creating colorful light streak circles in the sky.

Decay: Brandon Chapin

The simplicity of decay spreads from large to small.  This little weathered fire hydrant is a link to more decay then it looks.  Think about the fact that when a fire rages through a forest or a house burns down they are decaying in a way.  The fire truck that would drive to the scene is also slowly decaying, the engine is wearing and the tires are balding.  Then, that truck will come to this little decaying hydrant to use its water to put out the fire that is raging.  Everything and everyone around us is slowly decaying and will eventually die or crumble.  The trick is to find the beauty in these things and extracting it. © Brandon Chapin Photography.
