Cynthia Repasy: Beauty

Beauty in the eye of the beholder?  That's a bunch of crap.  From the day we are born, we are taught what beauty is.  Whether it be by our parents, our friends, or through televison.  So what is beauty?  And how do we know that it is truly beautiful?  For me, beauty is the inner peace I feel when I've accomplished a difficult goal, when I finished a quarter of school...without failing, and when I see my children accomplish their goals.  Beauty is something that will be different for each and every person.  It's your job to figure out what it means to you and how to achieve it.

Funky: Cynthia Repasy

Did you know that Chinese culture believes that a pinwheel is meant to "turn one's luck around?"  It is seen as an intrument to turn obstacles into opportunties.  The Chinese culture primarily uses the pinwheels during their New Year celebrations.  The intent is to bring the owner good luck, longevity, health and prosperity for the new year.

Pinwheels can be found all over the world and have for the most part, retained their simplistic shape from culture to culture.  The symbolism of such a simple piece is quite diverse.  To some, it represents childhood innocence, while to others it can be viewed as unseen energy, wish fullfillment, or even take on a more spiritual meaning.

When I see pinwheels, it brings me back to my childhood days.  I used to fight with my brother over who had the fastest spinning one.  Next time you see a pinwheel, what will it remind you of?

Cynthia Repasy: Mirrors

Does heaven have a phone number?
Daddy went to heaven, but I need him here today.

My tummy hurts and I fell down; I need him right away.

Operator, can you tell me how to find him in this book?

Is heaven in the yellow part?  I don't know where to look.
I think my mommy needs him too, at night I hear her cry.

I hear her call his name sometimes, but I really don't know why.
Maybe if I call him, he will hurry home to me.

Is heaven very far away?  Is it across the sea?
He's been gone a long, long time-
He needs to come home now!

I really need to reach him, I simply don't know how.
Help me fine the number, please.  Is it listed under "heaven?"

I can't read these big, big words; I am only seven.
I'm sorry, operator, I didn't mean to make you cry.

Is your tummy hurting too, or is there something in your eye?
If I call my church maybe they will know.

Daddy said when we need help that's where we should go.
I found the number to my church tacked up on the wall.

Thank you, operator
I'll give them a call.

I have lost many friends in my life time.  Coping with the loss is never easy, whether it's a family member, a friend, or a pet.

Old School: Cynthia Repasy

For a class assignment, we had to shoot something that was considered "old skool".  I wasn't quite sure what this meant as old skool could mean many things.  The other day I was at the playground with my kids when my youngest son came up to me wearing this older style "grampa" hat.  My grandfather used to wear similar hats and I always liked trying them on.  The hat brought back childhood memories of spending summers at my grandfather's house and the many smells of his house...some were good smells and others were just downright disgusting.  Especially when he made pigs feet.  While my son is not a grampa yet, his way of wearing it reminded me of something that is old school.

This hat is called a "golf knicker."  If interested in purchasing this style, I recommend visiting Golf Knickers
